Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish.
Favorite track: Paddy on the Turnpike/Jackson’s.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable album. Caitlin, Will and Chris have a wonderful chemistry and their music is superbly paced, stylish and tasteful. I loved it from beginning to end!

"The Glory Reel"… is a fabulous album from three of Irish America’s finest. The tempos here are brilliant and their music has some serious bounce going on. The whole album is just very full of life and a pleasure to listen to. Highly recommended to anyone who likes music that is informed by and stays faithful to the tradition.

There's no shortage of tunes or quality on The Glory Reel, and I look forward to hearing more from these three versatile musicians.

We live in a great time for traditional Irish music in America. Up and down the Eastern seaboard, a generation of young(ish) musicians play with a passion that’s coupled with respect and admiration for the music of generations past. Modern-day Irish musicians in Boston and New York City make music with an intensity that’s founded in the Irish-American music that was being made in those same cities a century ago; for us, the quality of energy in that music is everything. We’ve been fortunate to spend our formative musical years in this scene. We’ve spent an awful lot of time together at sessions and house parties, playing tunes until dawn and talking about the finer points of obscure 78s over coffee until late the next day. It’s a tremendous education, and it’s tremendously fun. In 2018, after many sessions and a few gigs in Portland and Boston, it occurred to the three of us that we really liked playing together—a shared musical vocabulary and mental library of influences made our music come together in a way that felt easy and sounded right. In September of the same year, we sat down in Nathan Gourley’s home studio on Copley Street in Jamaica Plain to record this album over the course of a weekend. We had many sounds in our heads: the flute playing of John McKenna, the piping of Michael Carney and Patsy Touhey, the music of Donegal fiddle legends John and Mickey Doherty, James Byrne, and Vincent Campbell, and of course the foundational 78s of Coleman, Killoran, and Morrison. These are a diverse set of influences, to be sure, but a set tied together by drive, energy, and virtuosity; they serve as great inspiration to us.
